from WikipediaRead it all ↗Gideon Hawley, a missionary, arrived in this area in 1753. William Cooper purchased land (Cooper Patent) that now is marked, in part, by Cooperstown. Major settlement began around 1788.
The Town of Otsego was organized while still in Montgomery County in 1788, and is the oldest town in the county.
