Carpio was founded in 1898. It is commonly believed that the town was named after the first post office which operated out of a railcar - hence 'Car P.O.'.
Carpio was established in 1898. Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 157 to 144 (-8%). Half of its homes were built before 1971.
