The population was 319 at the 2000 census. Founded by French-Canadians, Gentilly Township was organized in 1879, and named after Gentilly, Quebec.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 280 to 260 (-7%). Half of its homes were built before 1964.
