Although it existed as an unincorporated village since before 1860, the town was officially incorporated in 1997. Baker Hill is governed by a six-member council include the mayor.
Bakerhill was established in 1997. Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 279 to 211 (-24%). Half of its homes were built before 1975.
