It is part of the Point Pleasant, WV–OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after New Haven, Connecticut, the native home of the local mine proprietors.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 1,560 to 1,476 (-5%). Half of its homes were built before 1960.
