The population was 1,552 at the 2020 census (down from 1,654 at the 2010 census). The CDP contains the unincorporated communities, from west to east, of Huff Junction, Mallory, Davin, Mineral City, Claypool, Combs Addition, and Gillman Bottom. The community was named after the local Mallory Coal Company.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 1,654 to 1,552 (-6%). Half of its homes were built before 1995.
