The population was 469 at the 2020 census. St. Francis is named after the St. Francis Indian School, which was named after Francis of Assisi and was operated by the Catholic Franciscan order.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 709 to 469 (-34%). Half of its homes were built before 1977.
