The story so far

from Wikipedia & the U.S. Census

Trent is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. As of the 2020 census, Trent had a population of 339. The CDP is in central Lane County, along Rattlesnake Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the Middle Fork Willamette River. The Middle Fork forms the northeast boundary of the CDP. Oregon Route 58 runs through the southern part of Trent, leading northwest 14 miles (23 km) to Eugene, the county seat. To the southeast, Route 58 immediately passes through Dexter and leads 27 miles (43 km) to Oakridge.

Half of its homes were built before 1975.

Wikipedia doesn’t have a history of Trent yet — the old photos, dates and memories neighbors add here are how it gets written.

Nothing in Trent is on the National Register yet

That’s true of most small towns. It doesn’t mean Trent has no history, only that no one has written up a nomination. The closest listed place is Pengra Bridge in Trent, 1.7 miles away.

How a place gets listed

1Talk to the stateEvery nomination goes through the State Historic Preservation Office. Owners, towns and historical societies can start one.
2Try a local or state list firstMany states keep their own register with a shorter form, a common first step for old barns, halls and schoolhouses.
3Write it upA nomination covers the history, photos and a map. Pengra Bridge’s page links to a real one.
