It lies at the intersection of State Routes 339 and 550 near the South Fork of Wolf Creek, which meets the Muskingum River at Waterford to the north.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 2,618 to 2,560 (-2%). Half of its homes were built before 1983.
