As of the 2020 census, Gildford had a population of 141. The town was named for Guildford, England. A flour mill, which milled Golden Grain Flour, operated from 1915 to 1951.
Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses its population fell from 179 to 141 (-21%). Half of its homes were built before 1944.
