The story

from WikipediaRead it all ↗

Goodhue was incorporated in 1889. Goodhue formerly had a rail line running through the eastern edge of the incorporated area, roughly parallel to and west of State Highway 58.

The Goodhue Area Historical Society constructed a museum in the community named in honor of James M. Goodhue, a newspaperman who was the first editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Since the mid-1990s, Goodhue, like many Midwestern municipalities with medium to large elevator operations, has seen its housing base and population grow.

The first significant growth in 20 years began with construction of several homes in an annexed area north of Third Avenue and west of Sixth Street known as "East side".

Nothing in Goodhue is on the National Register yet

That’s true of most small towns. It doesn’t mean Goodhue has no history, only that no one has written up a nomination. The closest listed place is District No. 20 School in Hay Creek, 7.2 miles away.

How a place gets listed

1Talk to the stateEvery nomination goes through the State Historic Preservation Office. Owners, towns and historical societies can start one.
2Try a local or state list firstMany states keep their own register with a shorter form, a common first step for old barns, halls and schoolhouses.
3Write it upA nomination covers the history, photos and a map. District No. 20 School’s page links to a real one.
