Southgate is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A Downriver suburb of Detroit, Southgate is located roughly 14 miles (22.5 km) southwest of downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, Southgate had a population of 30,047. Southgate was incorporated as a city on October 8, 1958, from one of the last remaining portions of the now-defunct Ecorse Township.
