The city is located in West Tennessee, 12 mi (19 km) east of the Mississippi River. As of the 2020 census, Covington had a population of 8,663. Located 42 mi (68 km) northeast of Memphis, Covington is part of the Memphis, Tennessee Metropolitan Area.
